Project Location
The Amayo Windfarm is located at kilometer 129 of the Panamerican Highway South, on the shores of Lake Nicaragua, about 20 kilometers south of the city of Rivas, Rivas department. The area where the project is located is considered throughout the Central American region as one of the places with greatest potential for wind power generation.
The Amayo Windfarm is located on kilometer 129 of the Panamerican Highway South, in the department of Rivas.

The Wind Resource
• The area where the project is located has the best class in the world for wind power generation.
• Seven years of data collection (1998-2005), with two meteorological towers 40 feet high with 3 Anemometers each (40m, 30m and 15 m).
• Over the years, several studies by prestigious international companies: TRIPOD (Denmark), Jack Kline (USA), Iberdrola (Spain), SOCOIN (Spain), Braselco (Brazil).
• All these studies concluded that the characteristics of wind to generate electricity are excellent:
- Average wind speed 9 m / sec,
- Wind direction very consistent E-W,
- Low turbulence
- Minimum roughness
- All of these studies estimated that the project would have a plant factor of approximately 48.5%
The project area has excellent wind resources compared with other areas of the region.
